Whenever I discuss creating content for a client the subject of video length is at the top of the list. While most may believe that the shorter it is the more likely it will be watched, this study tells a different story. In the mobile environment it seems that shorter is better (from 1-3 minutes). Consumption in the mobile environment has doubled year over year. But overall the most viewing time was spent with long form video over 30 minutes. I feel that in many cases it does not really matter since most video is discovered via search. This means that when someone searches for content they are already interested in the subject matter. If the content is good then people will watch. Create compelling content and it will be consumed no matter how long the program is. Check out this recent study on the subject.
